Acting on a commitment to make Hollywood "The City of the Arts," City of Hollywood Mayor Mara Giulianti, City Commissioners, and City Manager Cameron Benson initiated plans in 2003 to create an arts-themed regional park on 10-acres of historic land in downtown Hollywood.

The vision of transforming Young Circle into a venue for art, education, recreation and entertainment rose from the drawing board spearheaded by a $5 million grant from Broward County, matching funds from the City of Hollywood, and the investments of early supporters totaling $21 million, including a $1 million grant from the Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency. The Greater Hollywood Arts Foundation began a capital fundraising campaign to raise an additional $7 million to complete the ArtsPark.
Project designer Margi Nothard envisioned the ArtsPark as a place where all the spaces within the park would be designed for the activities that occur within them. "The concept of the ArtsPark is the integration of landscape and art through human discovery," Nothard explains. "The ArtsPark itself is conceived of as an integrated artwork that transforms from an organic landscape into a constructed landscape-and ultimately architecture as landscape and as sculpture."
Today, the ArtsPark is open to the public and still evolving as a work in progress. The dream of creating a dynamic, interactive public park is emerging as an enticing reality supported by the Greater Hollywood Arts Foundation, Inc. and enlightened private citizens who believe in its value and the positive impact it can have on the community and the region.
